คนส่วนใหญ่มองบันไดขึ้นสถานีรถไฟฟ้าว่าเป็น "สิ่งจำเป็นที่น่ารำคาญ" แต่เราคิดว่ามันน่าจะกลายเป็นสวนสาธารณะได้
โจทย์ของโครงการชวนงงพอสมควร—บันไดขึ้นรถไฟฟ้า ห้องสมุดชุมชน ชมรมหมากรุก และสวนเล็กๆ ที่ถูกบีบอยู่ข้างหนึ่งในสี่แยกที่วุ่นวายที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งของกรุงเทพฯ
โชคดีที่พื้นที่นี้มีลูกค้าตัวจริงอยู่ก่อนแล้ว...ต้นไม้ใหญ่หลายสิบปีที่ไม่มีความคิดจะย้ายไปไหน
การขึ้นสู่ชานชาลาสูงเกือบ 7 เมตร หมายถึงทางลาดยาวที่หลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ แทนที่จะซ่อนมัน เราให้มันกลายเป็นพระเอกของโครงการ
ทางลาดสีขาวค่อยๆ เลื้อย ซิกแซก และโอบล้อมต้นไม้ใหญ่ เชื่อมป้ายรถเมล์ ที่จอดจักรยาน และสถานีรถไฟฟ้าเข้าด้วยกัน ถ้ารีบก็เดินตรงไป แต่ถ้ามีเวลาอีกสักห้านาที...ก็อ้อมใต้ร่มไม้ก่อนกลับบ้านก็ได้
Most people think of a Skytrain staircase as a necessary evil. We thought it could become the park.
The brief was an odd mix: a Skytrain staircase, a community library, a chess club, and a tiny park squeezed beside one of Bangkok's busiest intersections.
Luckily, the site already had the best client of all—the trees. Decades old, stubborn, and definitely not interested in moving.
To reach the station, everyone has to climb almost seven meters. Accessibility rules demand a long, gentle ramp. Instead of hiding it, we let it take over the project.
The white ribbon twists, loops, and zigzags through the trees, connecting the bus stop, bicycle parking, and Skytrain station. Need to catch the train? Go straight. Got five extra minutes? Take the long way home under the shade.
แล้วทางลาดก็เริ่มรับหน้าที่ใหม่ไปเรื่อยๆ มันกลายเป็นระเบียง ม้านั่ง จุดชมวิว ทางลัด และสุดท้ายก็ขยายตัวจนกลายเป็นหลังคาของห้องสมุดชุมชน
กลางสวนคือกระดานหมากรุกยักษ์ มันไม่ได้มีไว้เพื่อหาผู้ชนะเท่านั้น แต่มีไว้เป็นข้ออ้างให้คนแปลกหน้าหยุดดูเกม คุยกัน ถกเถียงกันเรื่องหมากตัวต่อไป หรืออาจได้เพื่อนใหม่โดยไม่รู้ตัว
ในเมืองที่ทุกคนเอาแต่รีบไปให้ถึงจุดหมาย เราออกแบบบันไดที่ชวนให้เดินช้าลงอีกนิด
บางครั้ง โครงสร้างพื้นฐานก็เป็นแค่โครงสร้างพื้นฐาน
แต่บางครั้ง...มันก็กลายเป็นจุดหมายเสียเอง
The ramp keeps finding new jobs. It becomes a balcony, a bench, a shortcut, a lookout—and eventually stretches wide enough to become the roof of the community library.
Right in the middle sits a giant chessboard. It's less about winning and more about giving complete strangers an excuse to stop, watch, argue over the next move, and maybe make a new friend.In a city obsessed with getting somewhere as fast as possible, we designed a staircase that politely suggests taking your time.
Sometimes infrastructure is just infrastructure.
Sometimes it's the destination.
